With the popularity of the documentary "Exploring Hidden Realms" featuring Wang Yibo, the rock climbing scene in Gushi Village, Lianjiang, Fuzhou has suddenly garnered attention, becoming a new favorite among outdoor enthusiasts. Nowadays, visitors to the area can not only challenge themselves with exhilarating cliff climbs but also visit a uniquely designed cliffside café, savoring rich coffee while taking in the breathtaking views of the Matsu Archipelago.

This cliffside café, located in Gushi Village, officially opened to the public on October 1st this year and quickly became a new internet-famous landmark in the local coastal tourism scene. It was jointly planned by teams from Fujian and Taiwan, ingeniously blending outdoor adventure with coffee culture to create a brand-new travel experience.

According to information, the café boasts a unique geographical location, facing the Matsu Archipelago across the sea and offering one of the closest mainland perspectives of Matsu. On clear days, visitors sitting in the café by the cliff can not only enjoy a good cup of coffee but also gaze at the captivating scenery of the Matsu Islands, experiencing the grandeur where mountains meet the sea.

The name of the Matsu Archipelago is said to be related to Lin Moniang, the daughter of a Song Dynasty fisherman named Lin Yuan. Legend has it that Lin Moniang, known for her filial piety, often lit fires at night to guide fishing boats. Later, when her father perished at sea, she mourned deeply and threw herself into the ocean to search for him. Her body drifted to Nangan Island, and the residents, moved by her devotion, built a temple in her honor. During the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, Lin Moniang was posthumously honored as the "Heavenly Queen," later known as Mazu, and Nangan Island phonetically evolved into Matsu.

Over two months ago, explorer Arthur from Fujian came to Lianjiang and was instantly drawn to the steep cliffs of Gushi Village, deeming them perfect for via ferrata and rock climbing activities. After completing an on-site survey, inspiration struck — he decided to open a café on the cliff. “Slowly descending along a rope, sitting on a suspended platform, sipping coffee while admiring the sea and sky of Matsu, and even welcoming the sunrise — that image was just too stunning,” Arthur described his inspiration during an interview.

Subsequently, Arthur and his team began planning a series of outdoor activity and leisure experiences, including the innovative idea of combining via ferrata with coffee culture. Here, visitors can wear safety gear and use professional facilities to climb up to suspended platforms within the cliffs, leisurely enjoying coffee in the sea breeze while taking in extraordinary natural vistas.

Project founder Xue Ke told the media: “After two months of on-site investigation, we found that the cliff landscapes of Gushi Village are exceptionally unique, so we decided to launch the ‘Cliffside Coffee’ project, which perfectly aligns with the local natural environment.”
