Introduction:Starbucks’ annual Dragon Boat Festival Zongzi Frappuccinos always spark conversation, and this year they’re drawing even more attention with a creative fusion of Eastern and Western flavors. From classic mocha-inspired varieties to the down-to-earth sweet potato hearts, four new flavors paired with an exclusive popping candy dip add a modern coffee twist to the traditional holiday. This article takes an in-depth look at the flavor profiles of each variant, the best ways to enjoy them, and offers tips on choosing a tote bag, helping you master the fashionable art of gifting festive coffee treats.

As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, Starbucks once again captures the holiday market with its innovative Zongzi Frappuccinos, this year introducing four groundbreaking flavor combinations that skillfully blend Western coffee elements with Eastern festive snacks. Each exquisite set of 8 pieces not only satisfies your taste adventure but also comes with a secret dipping sauce to elevate the flavors, creating a richly layered festive afternoon tea experience.

Among the first four creative Zongzi Frappuccinos launched, the “Lychee Coconut Zongzi Frappuccino” combines fresh Hainan coconut meat with Lingnan lychee jelly, presenting a tropical three-layer progressive texture; technically, it uses a -18°C flash-freezing preservation process to ensure the integrity of the fruit fibers. The second variant, the “Mint Coffee Zongzi Frappuccino,” innovatively blends espresso flavors, an oat milk base, and a lemon cheese filling. It’s recommended to pair it with a pour over Yirgacheffe to highlight its citrus notes.

For those who prefer bold flavors, the “Cheesy Salted Egg Yolk Zongzi Frappuccino” features a flowing filling made from Hokkaido salted egg yolks and mozzarella cheese. The internal temperature needs to be maintained at 4–6°C to preserve its optimal creamy texture. Meanwhile, the “Oolong Mischief Zongzi Frappuccino” fuses Taiwanese high-mountain oolong tea broth with white peach pulp. The tea leaves are extracted using the golden ratio of 85°C water temperature infused for 3 minutes.

To enhance the fun of eating, Starbucks this year offers two exclusive popping candy dips—the Xinhui dried tangerine peel flavor helps neutralize sweetness and richness, while the chili flavor creates an exciting ice-fire contrast. Professionals suggest letting the Zongzi Frappuccino sit at room temperature for 5 minutes to warm up before dipping in a small amount of popping candy. This prevents the candy from melting too quickly, which could affect the popping effect.

The pre-sale campaign starts on May 4th, with the 8-piece set priced uniformly at NT$198. This year’s design has been adjusted to a minimalist-style tote bag available in black and white. Testing shows the tote bag can hold approximately 6–8 Zongzi Frappuccinos. It is recommended to store them with ice packs to extend freshness. For coffee enthusiasts, this limited-edition holiday combo is not just a treat for the taste buds but also an excellent way to experience the innovation of modern coffee culture.
